HAL GROGG PILOT GSW DFW DEN I was leafing through the Obituary page today and although I can't supply any specific date info, on many of the pilot's listed there is no info at all. My memory is far from perfect but I thought I'd pass along what I remember about some of these guys. Harold Grogg: A quiet guy and a good pilot. Another cancer victim who might have beat it had he gone to a specialist instead of the local sawbones. -H.A. Worth, TX -Social Security Death Index (4/14/00) Anybody know of a pilot by the name of Harold D. Grogg? I just received an e-mail from a grandson of his, and he was wondering if I knew him. I did not. It seems that his grandson is also into flight simulation, and had seen a post that I made on a simulation forum. I told him I would check around and see if anyone remembered him. -Darrell Robson Posted at the FL Club (1/10/02) Darrell, ask his grandson if there's anything else he would like to add. I could make a webpage if we had a photo. -Jake Lamkins (1/10/02) I used to fly with Harold a lot, he was a great pilot, and about as easy going as they come. It was very sad when he passed on. -Bob Lebrecht (1/10/02) I agree with you, Bob. Harold was ex-Central and a great guy and pilot. -Clyde Hart (1/13/02) I knew Hal Grogg. I was a Flight Operations Instructor (Ground School) from 5 Sept 67 until the 24th of August 1986. Hal was the kind of PILOT that you enjoyed having in your class. He was quiet and dignified and always presented himself as a gentleman. Many fellow pilots always had great respect & admiration for him. -Frank Meyer (1/20/02) Posted at FL Club Re Hal - does anyone have a photo of him so I can make an obituary webpage for him? -Jake Lamkins (1/20/02) I think his grandson, Chris had some, but he was having trouble getting them to me. Hopefully, he'll get it worked out. -Darrell Robson (1/21/02) I was looking in the obits just to check and see if a couple of my uncles were listed. Uncle Harold died in 1982. I will see if Dad has some pictures. Dad has a lot of pictures of family. Uncle Harold died when I was 16. He was very smart and made sure his mortgage and car payments and everything he owed was set up that in case he died the bills would just go with him so to speak. As near as I can remember it worked out for the family. It was nice to see so many people saying great things about him. As his nephew I was guessing I might have been biased. He was always a very warm person. By the way just because ......... His son's name is Mitch and I will try to get him in here too. Now, he probably has some stories and pictures. -Mark Guthrie (2/14/05) This is Billie & Jack Leonard Curtis (Billy Jack Guthrie's cousin), are you Mark Guthrie, Billy Jack Guthrie's son? Harold Dean Grogg was Mildred Curtis Grogg's husband, they had 4 children - Steve, Tim, Cathy, and Mitch. They lived in Ft. Worth. Mildred was Billy Jack's cousin, so that would make Harold Dean Grogg your cousin in law. Mildred died in December of 1993,and is buried in Bluebonnet Cemetary in Colleyville, Tx, next to Harold Dean Grogg her husband. -Jack and Billie Curtis (2/15/05) Ken Schultz sent a packet of CN/FL memorabilia. Included were two 8X10 photos from Central Airlines that were not dated. Both featured three crew members - in front of and boarding a CV240: Dick Cottingham, Hal Grogg and Sandy Dietrich. One has a hangar and DC-3 in the background which looks like the CN hangar at GSW. So the date would be about 1964, I think. Both Grogg and Cottingham are deceased. I don't have any other info on Dietrich. -Jake Lamkins (1/20/07) H D GROGG Seniority date of 7/17/61 on the 9/1/72 FL/ALPA seniority list. -Jake Lamkins (2/2/07) Thanks for posting a picture of my uncle ...great shot. I was 16 when he flew West... I remember it like it was yesterday. He took good care of his family before and after he died. That's the time my father taught me about a special insurance addon that pays for any outstanding bills. The car his wife drove, the house they lived in, everything was paid for when he flew West. So when he went he took more than he had to. They musta let him fly a 747 outta here!!! I miss those days when our families were closer. Days weren't nearly as hectic and time wasn't so short when it wasn't my time to earn my keep. Now that it is, the best I can do is let my family members know I love them and hope they remember. -Mark Guthrie (2/4/07)
