Back in Jan. 1982, FL pulled out of FYV and was replaced with half a dozen commuter airlines. FYV ceased being a commercial airport in 1999 when the regional airport XNA opened in an adjacent county. FYV had a large terminal built in 1980 that suddenly became mostly vacant. In recent years there has been a restaurant/bar and beauty salon in it. The FYV airport is the southern limit of the Fayetteville city limits. Just south of it is the town of Greenland, pop. about 1,000. The Greenland post office lost their lease on the small building they had used for years. It opened 2/21/05 in the north end where baggage claim and rent-a-cars were formerly located. |
