BERNIE NAGLE 1961 - 1986 STATION AGENT LIT DEN I received a call from Bernie Nagle's wife about an hour ago. Bernie Nagle passed away this morning from cancer. He was living in Altoona, Pa. -Buddy Griffin (2/16/07) Thanks, Buddy. That's lousy news. I didn't know he was sick. He has been getting the FL newsletter since we started it, so I knew he went back to Altoona. Either he or his wife was from that area. Let me know of any further info you get. -Jake Lamkins (2/16/07) B J NAGLE JR Seniority date of 3/16/61, emp # 05968, on the 1/1/74 FL/ALEA seniority list -Jake Lamkins (2/16/07) They were both from Pa. He had a pacemaker for a little over a year, and had felt very good. But the last two or so month he had severe pain in one side to the back. He and emailed each other real regular and I had called him some, but when the emails almost complete quit I started calling him about once a week. When I talked to him I had no idea it was this bad. It was all over his body. I will try to get info on the obit. Buddy Griffin (2/16/07) Did Bernie go somewhere when LIT closed or did he take HSF? When did LIT close? -Jake Lamkins (2/16/07) I don't remember the actual closing date. They reduced staffing before the actual closing date for LIT. We went to DEN, and worked in Air Freight, in October 1984. In June 1985, may have a little earlier, he decided he had a enough and took his retirement and went back to LIT. I took a leave of absence also and went back home and worked odd jobs until I was notified by Denver that I would have terminate my employment or return to DEN, or there was an opening in SGF. I went SGF in Aug 1985. You know the end of the story. -Buddy Griffin (2/16/07) OBITUARY Bernard J. “Red” Nagle, 75, Altoona, died Friday, Feb 16. Interment at Calvary Cemetery. -ALTOONA MIRROR on Feb 17, 2007 Bernie's date of hire was 3-6-61 same as most of the Mar06/61 group Seniority was decided by age. We had three of us LIT - Bernie oldest, my self next and Hank youngest. All hired on 3-06-61. When I was hired Central sent me a letter wanting me to report to LBL 0n Mar 28, 1961. When I acknowledged they advised me it was intended to be 2-28-61, It was somewhat inconvenient for to get things in order for to go that quick. Had known that so many others would be hired that (3-06-61) I would have gone to LBL on the 28 FEB 61 some way. HA HA! (The reason CN hired so many agents this date was a CAB award of a new routes - principally in Kansas - effective 3/6/61.) -Buddy Griffin (2/26/07) I am sending info on Bernie. Maybe you can use it in the paper. Also some photos I had taken at an old timer party we had in LIT a few years ago. Maybe you can use one of them. I have copies of these so don't bother to return them. His wife Barbara sent me the winter picture made in 1994. Bernie graduated from National School of Aeronautics in MKC in March 1961. He was hired by Central Airlines right out of school. He and Hank Goffart hired the same day and were sent to LIT - I trained them both. Truman Jones, Superintendant of stations, hired a lot of people right out of airline school in MKC in those days. Bernie was a prince of a guy and a loyal friend. Hard working and dependable, he was the epitome of an airline agent. Another perfect example of the rare breed of people who joined together to make Frontier Airlines the unique company that it was. Bernie was special - most of all he was a treasured friend. Bernard J. “Bernie” Nagle January 28, 1932 - February 16,2007 Bernard J. “Bernie” Nagle passed away on February 16, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 75 years old. Bernie worked as a station agent for Frontier Airlines in Little Rock, Ark., from 1961-1986 and for a short time in Denver, Colo. Upon retirement he moved back to his hometown of Altoona, Penn. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara; son Matt; stepdaughter Christina Mitchell; stepson Gary Parsons; three grandchildren; one greatgrandson; two nieces; and one nephew. Bernie was preceded in death by son Daniel, and two sisters, Celeste and Helen Schorner of Altoona, Penn. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1966. He was an avid reader, gardener, woodworker, and a lifelong lover of jazz music. -Jack Chambers (2/28/07) Jack, your letter said Bernie served in the Air Force 1961-86. I know that can't be right - can you tell me what the dates were. Thanks again for the packet. -Jake Lamkins (3/1/07) Sorry about the wrong dates on Bernie. I just talked to Barbara Nagle and the correct dates on his Air Force service was 1953 to 1957. Bernie was my favorite Old Hippie and he loved FL with a passion only other FL vets can understand. He still wore his left over FL things and with pride. He was pure FLamily to the end. -Jack Chambers (3/3/07) I would like to thank you for Bernie's online obituary. I know he would be grateful for the nice things said about him. He was a loyal Frontier employee and loved his work. Sincerely, -Barbara Nagle (10/4/07)
